Postcard Exchange

Over the summer I thought about finding penpals. Well I found something a little different that I thought we should give a try: a Postcard Exchange. So back in August each student filled out some facts about Indiana on the back of a postcard. Each student was responsible for 2 cards.

I have mailed 5 cards a week for the past several weeks. In return, we have recieved postcards from students in grades k-6 from all over the country. So far, we have received 36 out of 49 postcards!

The kids have seen the postcards come in the past two months but I am waiting until we have all 50 to read the facts on the back. Then we will create a Postcard Class Book with the different information we will have learned.

Animals everywhere!

This week we started learning all about animals and the different groups they belong to. The kids started researching an animal today and will begin making a fact poster all about their animal after all their notes are gathered. These will look so great in the hallway!

We are continuing to work on plane shapes, congruency, and symmetry. Next week we will start working with geometric shapes.

We Love Learning!

Last week we started math stations for the first time and it went great! We started learning about plane shapes. Here are some of the kids in action:

We also read a story in our readingbooks called A Harbor Seal Pup Grows Up. The kids really enjoyed this story about a Harbor Seal pup that was lost. We spent time learning about Harbor Seals. Here is Nate and Raiana working on their four square chart:

Meet Owen!

Our class did it again! I wrote another grant for our classroom titled, The Life of a Tortoise. The grant was to purchase a Russian Tortoise and the complete habitat. It was funded in less than a day! Wednesday night I was off to PetSmart to find our new friend!

The class decided to name him Owen! He was a little nervous his first day but on Friday he was out quite a bit getting to know the kids.

Eagle Creek Trip

This past Thursday we took our field trip to Eagle Creek Park. We learned about woodland animals, insects, and did a nature walk with a guide.

After lunch the kids all went on a scavenger hunt, finding all sorts of things in nature.
