Summer Time!

I hope all my old students are having a great summer! As I type 'old students' I feel a wave a sadness because I already miss them! However, I am so proud of them! They all grew so much and I was incredibly proud to send them off to better things!

I also am extremely excited for my new students! I have my list but most of them are just names since I don't know many kindergarteners very well (with them being upstairs). I am definitely not wishing away my wonderful summer (or yours!) but I look forward to meeting my new little ones in August!

Field Day

Last Friday we had our annual Field Day. However, this year it has been modified for maximum fun! The children were able to participate in many events from 8:30 - 2:10! They had so much fun doing hula hoops, the water relay, kick a shoe, tug of war, egg toss, free throw shots, and lots more! The weather turned out to be perfect! The rain stayed away and there was even a breeze on and off. We had lunch in the classroom as a nice break from the sun. They received popsicles, water, and even a snack throughout the day! What an awesome day! Exhausting...but definitely fun!

Spring Field Trip

Last Friday the kids went to the Children's Museum for their 2nd field trip! To prepare, we spent last week learning about fairy tales as well as space!

First we saw The Frog Prince play in the Lilly Theater. It was great...very funny! A lot of the kids said the play was their favorite part.

Then we visited the Planetarium. We saw The Secret of the Cardboard Rocket, which (I'm not going to lie) was ok. It had some language that is not first grade vocabulary. The kids did love going to the Planetarium though :)

Then we had lunch. Thanks to all my parents for being so understanding when the Museum s

hifted us to a different spot!!

We ended the day at the Dinosphere, which is a big favorite!

On the way home, there was definitely less talking because they were so worn out! What a fun day though!

Weight

For the last few weeks we have worked a lot on measurement, including time, money, inches and centimeters, and then the last two weeks we really worked on weighing things with scales and in pounds. We started the weight unit by weighing things with unifix cubes. Last week each group had to find things that weighed 1 cube, 2 cubes, etc all the way to 10 cubes. They had a large chart to fill in so we could compare between groups.

Live Bird Webcam

Over Spring Break I found this really cool webcam that is watching a bald eagle in Iowa. The female eagle layed three eggs. Two of the eggs hatched over break. The third egg hatched yesterday! The kids have LOVED wtaching the webcam this week! Right now I cannot get the live feed video to load here, so you can visit the eagle webcam here.
