Summer!

Summer vacation has been full of rest and relaxation for me and for you (I hope!).

I have been (slightly) busy preparing the classroom for next year's students! I am looking forward to teaching 1st grade again and starting a new 2 year loop!

Check back soon to get a sneak peek into what the room will look like for the new school year!

The Final Stretch!

We have almost entered into the final stretch of this school year! Next week is only a 4 day week too! We have so much planned for next week that I hope we can fit it all in!

Monday is Field Day! Because Friday is supposed to be terrible weather, it has been moved to next Monday. We are also going to be playing 2nd Grade Review Jeopardy! Each class will be divided into 4 groups and facing off against each other in a game to show what we have learned! We are also having our A Citizens Pool Party! Our class will join Mrs. Elmore's class after school for swimming at Mrs. Elmore's house.
Tuesday we have 2nd Grade Awards. We will be handing out awards to children who have made the Straight A and A/B Honor Roll all year as well as A Citizens and Perfect Attendance. We will also be holding the 2nd Grade Kickball Tournament! We will play two games in the morning and have the championship game in the afternoon. Mrs. Deaton's class and Mrs. Shaffner's class will also be having their pool party Tuesday after school.

Wednesday we will have our summer birthday popsicle party! We'll get to celebrate all the birthdays we will miss during June and July with a cool treat!

Thursday of course will be the last day for students! We spend part of the day Wednesday and Thursday cleaning up their desks, the room, and our garden.

I will try to get a lot of pictures posted next week to show all the fun!

Spring Field Trip: The Zoo!

Last Thursday, 2nd grade went to the Indianapolis Zoo on a field trip. It was perfect weather and we had tons of parent volunteers! The kids had a great day and loved seeing all the animals and the dolphin show. It was especially exciting for several of the kids because they had never visited the Zoo!

Is it Owen's long lost brother??

Look at all the penguins!

One of Mrs. Reed's favorite zoo animals!

Is he slimy Kylie??

Elephants are always cool!

These monkeys were super silly!

Enjoy the short dolphin show!

Cultural Taste Experience

Last week we had an exciting activity! We got to try several different foods from several different countries.
  • From Africa: Plantain, Mangoes, and Guava Juice
  • From China: Coconut Milk, Pot Stickers, Egg Rolls
  • From India: Rice Pudding
  • From Mexico: Rice and Beans
  • From Japan: Wasabi Rice Crackers, Edamame
  • From Germany: Pumpernickel Bread
  • From Scotland: Shortbreak Cookies

Several children enjoyed the spicy rice and beans!

Our cultural food expert, Ange, helped the kids get their food. She also described where a lot of the foods came from and what they tasted like.

The edamame was a huge hit! They loved how they just popped out of the pods!
