Last Friday was the 100th day of school! Although we had a 2 hour delay, we still had plenty of time to celebrate! We didn't get everything in but we still had a lot of fun counting 100 things! Together, students wrote a list of 100 words they knew!

The kids loved sharing their 100 things (except for unwrapped food! We didn't want to spread germs anymore than we already have!) We only have 82 more days together this semester!

Over the last week a very nasty bug has hit our classroom! All year long, our class has been the envy of first grade, getting perfect attendance often (even having 2 parties!). However, we have had many absences in the last week. Tuesday, after a nice long three day weekend, we had 9 kids out!! Yikes! Not to mention, I had caught the bug and was out too. Thursday it seemed to finally be working its way out of Room 36 when we only had three out. So continue washing hands and getting LOTS of rest this coming weekend. When you play outside, bundle up!!
Hopefully next week we will all be healthy and back to spelling Perfect Attendance for a third time. The only letter we have been able to put up, the P, has been quite lonely lately!

Before winter break and right after break, we worked a lot on fractions. First we worked on fractions of a whole. The kids did great with this! Then we moved on to fractions of a set, which can be quite hard! However, they did great!! Check out a few videos of the kids working in groups to show their fractions of a set on a poster:

We have spelled out Perfect Attendance for the second time! Last week we had our popcorn party for our celebration! I appreciate all of you parents for getting your children here every day and on time!!

Last Friday was our last day before winter break. We finished up our holiday gift bags. I hope you enjoyed the Christmas card and ornament as well as the snowman picture frame, complete with your child's Santa picture! We also graphed winter marshmallows. We made a tally chart, a pictograph, and a bar graph. Then the children read their graphs to answer a few questions and make fractions.
We also had caroling in the morning and I was so glad to see so many family members come! Kids love to show off for their family members so it's nice when you are able to make time to come in to school.
During recess we watched Polar Express which is a huge favorite in the class! Then we had our holiday party! Thank you all for sending in your dollar to contribute to the party fund! The kids loved their parfaits! They had a choice of strawberry or vanilla yogurt and three toppings to choose from: strawberries, blueberries, and peaches (or even a mixture of all of them!). They got to finish them off by added in some extra crunchy granola!
After their treats the kids got to open their present from me. Boy were they excited!
